Olympics & Memories
08.08.08 - the opening of the Beijing Olympics that I did not watch BUT I did watch the whole closing.
Its nice to be reminded that the 5 coloured rings that makes the Olympics logo represents peace, joy and happiness but put them all together, I see it as a representation of unity among nations. The closing ceremony was spectacular and breathtaking (I admit, I just love fireworks). Makes me miss home and reminds me of how fireworks would be played on the stroke to midnight annually to commemorate the first day of Chinese New Year back home despite the ban. Just shows how important CNY is in our community and fireworks at midnight really expresses the spirit of CNY that I don't see while I'm overseas or when I used to live in the west. Gosh, I sure miss CNY back home and I sure am awaiting to see the London 2012 Olympics. Another thing I miss is being back in England. I miss the feeling of how local and international students in the UK can all get along so well. Despite Australia being a multi cultural place, there's a clear distinction between Asians, ABCs and whites over here whereby the unity is very vague and they don't mingle all together like how I remember being in the UK.
